A young author takes on the subject of terrorism in an alternate world, with a band of female counter-insurgents who give a whole new meaning to the expression "girl power." Evelyn Forest and the Legend of Philopolis tells the story of a plucky girl and her two friends who have all been magically transported to Philopolis - a cluster of city-states ruled by women philosophers called Knollers. The girls soon find out that Philopolis is threatened by Lupstidinies, i.e. fanatical insurgents who want to destroy the Knollers' liberal culture to establish a centralized, authoritarian government. An old legend of Philopolis prophesizes the arrival of three Children to protect Philopolis against the terrorism of the Lupsidinies. To infiltrate the Lupstidinies organization, the three friends enroll as child soldiers at one of the training camps run by the insurgents. Their spying mission goes smoothly until betrayal strikes at the heart of the girls' mission, threatening to undo the sacred legend of Philopolis. In a time of great danger, the girls rely on their resources, and discover in themselves powers they had not known they possessed.
